Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi chooses Nigeria over England

Despite having played for England at the junior level, Alex Iwobi has pledged his international future to his country of birth, Nigeria.

The 19-year-old prodigy who is a nephew to Nigerian international legend Austin Jay Jay Okocha has been in splendid form in recent times with a spirited display against Barcelona in the Champions League — and finally scoring his first goal for Arsenal in their 2-nil away win at Everton on Saturday — winning the Man of the Match accolade.

Arsene Wenger had alerted the English FA of Iwobi’s talents with the FA meeting him discreetly over playing for England — but the Lagos born youngster has opted to play for the Super Eagles instead after honouring coach Samson Siasia’s call up to the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt.

The Arsenal forward who has played for Nigeria in two friendlies, could still revert back to England —- except if the 19-year-old play against Egypt on Friday, March 25th
