Chelsea starlet Charly Musonda Jr has joined Celtic on loan until the end of the 2018/19 season.
The attacking midfielder, a product of the Blues’ Academy, has made seven appearances as part of the first-team squad this season, scoring on his full debut against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup.
In his most recent game, the Belgian Under-21 international provided an excellent assist for Victor Moses’ goal in the 4-0 win at Brighton. That followed an eye-catching display in the Checkatrade Trophy, where Musonda netted a last-minute free-kick to beat Portsmouth, earning him a nomination for the competition’s Player of the Round.
Checkatrade follow the paint vendors, and various different small industrial van makers, in adding their brand to what was originally known as the Associate Members’ Cup (latterly the EFL Trophy).
The Football League (or EFL as it is now branded) agreed, starting last season, to allow the development sides of Premier League clubs to participate in a competition previously reserved for those in the third and fourth tiers of the national sport, hence Chelsea’s involvement.
Having recently signed a new contract until 2022, Musonda will now continue his development with more regular first-team football in Scotland.
