Giroud is staying – Wenger

There has been plenty of talk in the press surrounding Olivier Giroud this summer. However, the French striker has remained at Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger is happy to keep him at North London.
Giroud came off the bench to head home the Gunners’ winner – and his 99th Arsenal goal – in the 4-3 win against Leicester City on Friday night.
Wenger spoke to about Giroud’s future.

on Giroud wanting to fight for his place…
It’s fantastic. I must say I opened the door for him at some stage because I know that it’s important for him to play, but I don’t want him to go and in the end he decided to stay. It was one of the days of recent weeks for me because I know how important he is, not only as a player, he is a fantastic player, but as well in the group. He has a big weight in the squad and it was a relief for me that he decided to stay.

on if Giroud could leave…
No. It’s a determined no.

on if this the best attack since Arsenal last won the title…
It’s a long time since since we’ve had so much quality because Giroud is in his prime, he is at the top of his game. We have top quality.
