Hull City’s new manager begins with victory against Bournemouth

Marco Silva marked his first Premier League game in charge with a win as Hull City came from behind to beat Bournemouth 3-1 at the KCOM Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Abel Hernandez scored his first Premier League goals since August as his double turned the game around after Bournemouth had taken an early lead from the penalty spot before the three points were sealed when Tyrone Mings turned Tom Huddlestone’s effort into his own net just after the hour mark.

New signings Oumar Niasse and Evandro were on the bench as Head Coach Silva named his first top flight line-up. Hernandez started for the first time since returning from injury, while Michael Dawson and Curtis Davies were also back in the starting eleven.

The afternoon got off to a poor start as the Tigers conceded a penalty inside three minutes. However, they found a way to turn the tables around.

Silva praised the spirit and attitude shown by his side during the match. “I am happy,” said Silva.

“It makes me happy to see my team with a big spirit and a big attitude. But first and foremost I am happy that we won the game.

“It was important that we changed the score after going 1-0 down after only three minutes. What I saw after that made me happy.

“We need to win games and this was my first in the Premier League. We have played three games in one week and won two of them. This is important because for two months we didn’t win a game.

“I believe in the team and I believe in our quality, but for sure I think the players believe more as well.

“We still need to improve a lot. We haven’t had a lot of time for preparation, but I saw many things that were different in our team during this 90 minutes. We have a lot of work to do in the coming weeks and we also have to find solutions for our squad.

“But this was a good day for the team and a good day for the fans. The fans gave us fantastic support and made a great atmosphere in the stadium and this is very important.

“It was important for Hernandez as a striker to score goals. In two home games he has scored three goals and this is important for the team also. His second goal was a very good goal.”
