It was a horrible night for Rafinha Alcantara who was injured a minute into his second half substitution on Wednesday night before being replaced by Mascherano
Rafinha 22, was subbed on for Rakitic in the 61st minute but lasted only a minute before he was stretchered off the pitch after suffering a horrible knee injury from AS Roma’s Nainggolan tackle
The Brazilian underwent a series of tests in the dressing room before he was seen on crutches as the team leaves for Barcelona
He (Rafinha) will now undergo a series of tests in Barcelona to determine the extent of the injury which the Catalan club fear could be a cruciate ligament tear
Speaking at the post match conference, Barcelona coach Luis Enrique said “We need to wait for the diagnosis but it looks like Rafinha’s knee injury is quite bad; this is the worst thing that could happen to us on this matchday. The injury in the second half stopped play a bit and took away some of the team’s verve, just like Roma’s goal did in the first half. We had a lot of chances but Florenzi’s goal came with a slice of luck. These are the kind of risks we take with our sort of defence.
The match against Roma kick started a UEFA Champions League title defence for Barcelona and it wasn’t the best result for the Blaugranas as they were held 1-1 by a spirited Roma display.
Luis Suarez scored in the 22nd minute with a near post header from Rakitic’s cross but a Florenzi wonder goal from 55 yards in the 32nd minute is enough for Roma to earn a point against the defending champions
