Liverpool win will boost confidence – Sigurdsson

Match-winner Gylfi Sigurdsson believes the Swans’ superb 3-2 victory at Liverpool will give the team added belief and confidence in their quest for Premier League survival.

Sigurdsson struck Swansea’s third after Jurgen Klopp’s high-flyers had cancelled out Fernando Llorente’s opening two goals.

It was enough to earn the Swans their first Premier League victory at Anfield and send Paul Clement’s side out of the relegation zone.

After Liverpool suffered their first defeat at home in the League in over a year, Sigurdsson was quick to praise the impact of new head coach Clement.

“Training has been really good over the last few weeks. We know what he wants from us and the message is really simple and very clear.

“Three points here today will give everyone belief and confidence and things look a lot better going into the week.

“But we need to keep doing what we’ve been doing over the last few weeks and build on it and hopefully we’ll be alright.’’

Sigurdsson’s final word though was for fellow goalscorer Llorente.

“Llorente is a goalscorer and for him to score two is fantastic. And, for it to be in a game that we won, is even better,” he added.

“He worked really hard and showed that when he gets deliveries on his head he will score goals. It’s good for his confidence and hopefully he will keep scoring.’’
